It is important to seek help for yourself, and your baby. Postpartum depression can affect a child’s development when parents are less emotionally responsive. Postpartum depression sticks around and can have a duration of up to a year.
Common symptoms are:
- Feeling OVERWHELMED
- Lack of feelings toward the baby
- Inability to take care of self and family
- Loss of interest, joy, or pleasure
- Feelings of worthlessness
- Sadness, crying
- Appetite and Sleep disturbances (beyond awakening with baby)
- Irritability and anger
- Hopelessness and helplessness
- Guilt and shame
