Did you know the “baby blues” are common? 60-80% of new moms experience the “blues.” This has nothing to do with loving your baby – it is attributed to hormone levels dropping at birth and the presence of maternal bonding hormones. Sleep deprivation affects moods in just about everyone. There is a lot to get used to – the reality of the responsibilities, and a crying baby repeatedly reminding you. This is a major adjustment for Moms, and Dads!
The good news is the “blues” are short-lived, lasting from two days to two weeks.
Common symptoms are:
- Fatigue
- Being teary
- Feeling irritable
- Being overly sensitive with others
- Moodiness
